Recombinant Proteins

Recombinant proteins are produced in a secondary organism, not normally producing this type of protein e.g. mammalian proteins produced by bacterial cells. Extraction and purification procedures vary depending on the source of the protein i.e. bacterial, plant and mammalian, intracellular or extracellular.
.
The advance of recombinant protein techniques in recent years has allowed production of proteins in large quantities for the first time. While recombinant proteins can be purified using LC chromatographic techniques, remnants of host contaminants, and problems related to solubility, structural integrity and biological activity can arise. These pages have been developed to help you avoid these problems and aid you in choosing the appropriate chromatographic technique(s) for the application(s) you require.
